The line up for 2008

The Dacoits

Main hall 10pm

On the main stage in the evening will be Faringdons most dynamic and powerful band The Dacoits.

"The Dacoit's creations are often as dark and fragile as they are raw and cutting. Passing through haunting soundscapes, strange ballads, fullblown rock and roll and all points in-between". (Sugar Hill Festival review).

Wire Jesus

Main hall 8.50pm

Sharing the main stage in the evening will be Readings 'Wire Jesus'.

I heard this Reading band supporting The Raveonettes at Oxfords Carling Academy in November. After their first song ‘Baby Blues’ I knew I had to book them for the BFG.

When was the last time you heard a cello taking the lead in a rock band with 4 part harmonies.

I eagerly await their performance on the 5th July.

Not My Day

Main Hall 8pm

Oxford based Indie/Rock band with real driving energy that are making a impact on the local music scene. Two of their songs are to used in the soundtrack of the new Philip Pullman film based in Oxford 'The Butterfly Tattoo' .

========================================================

Throughout the day the following bands will be playing a 45 minute set in either the main hall or the dining hall.

The first band on will be 'Forgotten Priority' in the main hall at 12 noon and the other bands will follow at staggered times between the main hall and the dining room.

Forgotten Priority

Main Hall 12 noon

Having formed in 2004 this band has done what all good bands should do - stuck with it, write their own songs and then won the Faringdon battle of the bands in 2007 which put them firmly in the local limelight by opening the Faringdon Arts Festival Market place concert.

The Julia Set

Dinining room 12.15

A combination of intense beauty with a sprinkling of intense guitar. An amalgamtion of country/jazz/folk/rock that will entice you then smoother you in delicate harmonies before leaving you drained.

DISCLOSURE

Main hall 1.05pm

Another winner of Faringdons battle of the bands that have also gone on to a very respectable 3rd place in the national battle of the bands (Luiquidisco Academy awards Oct 2006). We are very pleased to have added Disclosure to the BFG.

Another Lost Leader

Dining room 1.20pm

This well established Oxford band has developed a haunting and melodic acoustic sound, showcased in a polished and versatile live set. 4 tracks on their myspace site and even more on their own website.

Chalk

Main hall 2.10pm

Chalk are a regularly gigging band in and around Oxford and the BFG will be the first time they perform in Faringdon. Their catchy sound will no doubt help to develop their fan base and I suspect attract some gigs in Faringdon following the BFG.

Script

Dining room 2.25pm

Oxford based Indie/Pop band with great harmony laden vocals - think The Magic Numbers covering Muse.

But Then Again

Main hall 3.15pm

Rising from the ash…stuff that it’s a completely new band with all new songs. Powerpop/Rock with a hint of psychedelic lyrics and jolly laments (if there is such a thing) that linger in the air, catchy hooks and memorable melodies to whistle on the way home.

But what we want to know is how did they get on the line up…..that guitarist looks familiar.

B-Phil

Dining room 3.30pm

Former 'Place Above' guitarist is now in process of writing his own acoustic material as well as performing some old 'Place Above' tracks.

"Nice bloke, acoustic strumming with, hmmm, actually... rather f*cking good melodies. He listens to Vashti Bunyan, Radiohead, This Mortal Coil and Bruce Springsteen so he's alright with me." - Chris Beard, Exposure

Soulsmith

Main hall 4.20pm

A funky grunge yet acoustic sound built around a simple rock backline - simple but very effective.

The Hedgerow Crawlers

Dining room 4.35pm

Folk music with an acerbic tongue or so they promise me. Could be a duo could be a gang of musicians but either way it will be great toe tapping lyrical music.

KPW

An off shoot of Faringdons longest running band 'Kiff' KPW have been busy writing and recording a whole handful and more of original songs rooted in rock with a power pop twist, reggae riffs and some furious funk thrown in for good measure.

Hip Route

Mix Rock, Funk, Reggae with Hip-Hop, Latin and Jazz and you have a band an a half especially when played with such a great vibe as Hip Route.

The David Reynolds Band

Dining room 6.45pm

Imagine David Gilmour walks into a bar sees, Carlos Santana, Gary Moore and Chet Atkins sitting in the corner. He walks over to them and asks "Fancy a jam lads?"

The result might be as close to describing the sound of The David Reynolds Band as you can get.

Faringdon guitarist David has put together a set of original guitar based instrumentals, together with a few new songs as well, especially for the BFG.

Jazz,Rock,Blues,Latin and Funk...it's all there...come along and enjoy.
